Announcement from the New York State Reading Association

The New York State Reading Association is pleased to announce the winners o f the 2010 NYSRA Charlotte Award. Over 12,000 votes were cast by students across New York State. Students voted for their favorite books from a ballot of books created by the NYSRA Charlotte Award committee.

Winning books are selected in three categories: primary (preschool through grade three), intermediate (grades four through six) and young adult (grade s seven and up). Winners will receive the NYSRA Charlotte Award at the NYSRA annual conference in April 2011.

There Is a Bird On Your Head written and illustrated by Mo Willems and published by Hyperion won the award for the primary grades.

Stolen Children written by Peg Kehret and published by Dutton Children's Books won the award for the intermediate grades.

Hunger Games written by Suzanne Collins and published by Scholastic won the award for young adult literature.

As we celebrate the 2010 winners, reviews are already underway for the 2012 NYSRA Charlotte Award and nominations for that award will be announced at the NYSRA annual conference in April 2011.
