I heartily second what Pam said about Jullie Anne Peters!  I think she' s one of the very best current writers of LGBT literature for kids. FAR FRO M XANADU is truly wonderful, and a groundbreaker in that it's just about the first YA novel with a young butch lesbian main character.  grl2grl is a terrific collection of stories; RAGE bravely explores an abusive rel ationship, and LUNA, of course tells how a straight girl reacts to the fac t that her brother is beginning to openly express the fact that he's trans gender. Her lovely story "First Time" in Michael Cart's fine new YA LGBT anthology  How Beautiful the Ordinary is another first, for it sho ws, with good taste and gentle humor, the first time two girls  make lovew i th each other for the first time.

Ellen Wittlingr is another writer of fine LGBT Q YAs: LOVE & LIES, the seq uel to HARD LOVE, tells the story of Marisol's crush on an older woman--an other excellent groundbreaking novel in the genre, and PARROTFISH is the first YA focused on a young transgender character, beginning to transitio n from female to male, told with compassion and humor.
