Thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts about picture books featuring lesbian- and gay-parented families over the past couple of weeks.
For the remainder of May on CCBC-Net, we will turn our focus to books featuring gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning (GLBTQ) characters.
**The number of young adult novels focusing on or featuring gay characters and themes continues to increase dramatically. Fully realized characters, diverse and complex stories, and, above all, many more choices are benefiting librarians, teachers, and, most important, older children and teen readers. Even in the two years or so since we last discussed this topic, the numbers of available titles has grown tremendously, so that novels with GLBTQ characters are becoming an integral part of the landscape of publishing for youth.
As you think about books being published today, what titles stand out? Are there trends you notice? Gaps you want to see addressed?
