I don't remember seeing this one with same-sex male parents listed yet--
*Richardson, Justin and Peter Parnell. And Tango Makes Three. Illustrated b y Henry Cole. 2005. unp. Simon & Schuster, $15.99. (9780689878459/068987845 1). K-Gr. 2. At New York City’s Central Park Zoo, two male pe nguins parent an egg and start a family.
Also, if the categories are expanded, these books about favorite uncles cou ld be useful. Of the two, I liked Mini Mia and Her Darling Uncle better be cause there was a fuller depiction of the relationship between the child, h er uncle, and the uncle's partner--also because the retro artwork and child 's eye view appeals to me.
*Brannen, Sarah. Uncle Bobby’s Wedding. 2008. 32p. Putnam, $1 5.99. (978-0-399-24712-5). PreS-Gr. 2. Chloe’s concerns about her u ncle ’s upcoming wedding have nothing to do with the fact that his partn er is male; instead, like a typical preschooler, she worries that she will lose her favorite uncle’s attention.
*Lindenbaum, Pija. Mini Mia and Her Darling Uncle. Translated by Elisabeth Kallick Dyssegaard. 2007. unp. R&S Books, $16.00. (9789129667349/9129667348 ). K-Gr. 2. Jealous of her uncle’s new partner, Fergus, feist y Mia plays tricks to drive him away until the day Uncle Tommy isn’ t feel ing well and she decides to accept his relationship with Fergus.
All three books were included in the ALA Rainbow List, two from the 2008 li st and one from the 2009 list.
Thanks for the book suggestions-- Jane Cothron Waldport, Oregon
