The picture book, IN OUR MOTHER'S HOUSE (Philomel, 2009) by Patricia Polacco tenderly depicts three young adopted children and how they meet with joys and challenges of

being raised by two mothers, Marmee and Meema. The timeline goes from the children being taken in through to their growing up.

At the end:

"We watched our mothers grow old together...They passed away within a year

of each other...placed...together in a green hillside overlooking the bay

very near the place where they pledged their love to each so many years ago."

A modern-day must.
