On Saturday, April 10th, ReadThis and the Center for Fiction are hosting an event to raise books for NYC kids in need at 11 different schools and youth organizations.

It will be held at The Center for Fiction:

17 East 47th Street New York, NY 10017 (between 5th Ave. and Madison)

ELIZABETH GILBERT, SAM LIPSYTE, JAMAICA KINCAID, RICK MOODY, KURT ANDERSEN, CECILY von ZIEGESAR, TAD HILLS and many others (including Miriam Cohen and me) will participate in readings, panel discussions, workshops, and audience Q&As.

What you can do:

BRING YOUR BOOKS. If you are free and here, please come to the event. It's going to be a lot of fun, and the only admission cost to get in the door for almost every event is at least two gently used or new books for pre-K level through high school. A shocking number of children and young people throughout NYC do not have access to books in their homes or schools.Stop by, drop off books, or stay for the day (from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.) and enjoy some of the most exciting literary events around. Click here for a full schedule on Facebook:http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid73033837945&index=1 or go to www.booksfornyckids.org

BUY A TICKET TO ELIZABETH GILBERT'S AUDIENCE Q&As This is the only ticketed event of the day, and the reason is that we need multiple copies of titles so that teachers may teach the books in class. The money goes directly to buying the wishlist books - for example, 35 copies of "Things Fall Apart" or 33 copies of "Romeo and Juliet." Your $20 or $30 ticket will directly allow a class to study these great works. Click here for purchasing info:http://booksfornyckids.blogspot.com/

TELL A FRIEND ReadThis is an entirely volunteer organization and the Center for Fiction is a nonprofit. We need your help in spreading the word about the event. Please re-post, twitter or email the information onward to friends who might be interested. You don't know how valuable this one act can be.

IF YOU CAN'T BE THERE, PLEASE BUY A BOOK Even if you can't come, you can show your support for these young readers. We have set up a wishlist of titles that can be purchased online through the Center for Fiction:http://booksfornyckids.blogspot.com/

IF YOU CAN'T BE THERE ON SATURDAY, you can drop books off at the Center anytime during their business hours. Just clearly mark them as ReadThis April 10th book donations.

Hours: Monday through Thursday: 10:30AM to 7:30PM

Friday: 9:00AM to 5:00PM

Saturday: 11:00AM to 3:00PM

Finally, thank you. None of these schools and youth organizations would be helped without your support.
