I see on ALA Connect that Doris has already suggested reading books and doing programs tied to the USBBY Outstanding International Books list. Another way to celebrate ICBD is to read and promote this year's Batchelder

books (winner: A Faraway Island; honor books: Eidi, Big Wolf and Little Wolf, and Moribito II) as well as books by 2010 Andersen medalists David Almond (text) and Jutta Bauer (illustration.)

How will you celebrate International Children's Book Day, April 2

Hans Christian Andersen's birthday, 2 April is International Children's Book Day (ICBD). Established by IBBY, the day was created to to inspire a love of reading and to call attention to children's books. http://www.ibby.org/index.php?id&9 On the USBBY community of ALA Connect there is a place to post ways to celebrate International Children's Day. You do not have to be a member of ALA or USBBY to contribute ideas. http://connect.ala.org/node/98990 You can register on the site to become a member of the community, or post without joining the community.
