I thought the CSK choices were excellent. Yeah for Charles Smith; what a go rgeous book he has made of the Langston Hughes poem! And E.B. Lewis has don e the same for "The Negro Speaks of Rivers."
BAD NEWS FOR OUTLAWS was one of my favorite books all year, and Vaunda Nels on's writing is well deserving of the award. I only wish Gregory Christie's illustrations had been honored, too; certainly another honor book would no t have been extravagant.
I've yet to read MARE'S WAR and THE ROCK AND THE RIVER, but I hope too soon .
Already a great choice out there for the next CSK Author Award: Rita Willia ms-Garcia's ONE CRAZY SUMMER--my early pick for CSK and Newbery!!
