Coretta Scott King, Pura Belpre, AILA, and APALA Awards

We'll close out the last part of annual awards discussion by talking

about the books tht won the Coretta Scott King, Pura Belpre, American

Indian Library Association Awards, and the Asian/Pacific American Awa rd for Literature from the Asian/Pacific Library Association (APALA), as

well as the importance of awards in general from various cultural

perspectives.

This year's winners are:

One of the things that strikes me in looking over the list of award

winners is how many of them are published by small presses, particula rly with the American Indian and Asian/Pacific American awards. this real ly speaks to the importance and impact of small presses in contemporary

multicultural literature.
