I loved GOING BOVINE and enjoyed your review, Lisa, very much...I know I am chiming in late, but I listened to the 15 CDs (maybe more?) of the recorded book throughout the month of October on road trips for school visits/literary festivals to New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Murfreesboro, Tn. I truly felt like I was on the road with Cameron, Gonzo, Balder, and Dulcie...I found it exhilarating to listen to as a story, and I will never look at garden gnomes in the same way again. I found Cameron's voice to be so real and alive, and I was very glad to be on the road with all of them.

Going Bovine
I had the great opportunity to review Going Bovine in the New York Times. I have been a fan of the book since reading a galley in July. Mostly I just couldn't believe it. The realistic language and social satire that reminded me of Tom Robbins crossed with Fast Times at Ridgemont High. A Don Quixote-like adventure with more than a little Wizard of Oz thrown in. It shouldn't have worked but I just couldn't put it down. The Times style will not allow the reviewer to say "piss in your pants" funny. I wonder why. I really can't think of another phrase that describes how funny it is. And again...a book about a dying teen... its just wrong, yet I laughed and kept reading.
