I just finished Going Bovine and had mix ed reactions. I enjoyed the way Cameron's character transformed f rom an apathetic teenager into someone who finally understood the meanin g of life (love), and how his relationships with Gonzo, Balder, an d Dulcie (even though it was all a dream) helped him see life in a more positive way. The book even ended positively. Bray truly captu red Cameron's hallucinogenic illness; as some of you already mention ed, her descriptions were extremely vivid and I could picture everythi ng--as bizarre as it all was. On the other hand, sometimes I was confused a nd wondered where the story was going. I would have preferred the b ook to be a bit shorter and concise, possibly with more of the flashba cks to reality to clarify things. Those of you who work directly with teens : How have they reacted to this book? Are they into the trippy/ad venture story? Carling Febry, Librarian C ooperative Children's Book Center 429 0 Helen C.
