CCBC-Net Protocol Reminder: Deleting Prior Posts

Dear CCBC-Net Community,

I've just heard from a CCBC-Net subscriber who gets our discussion in digest version--a single message with the entire days' discussion. She opened her digest message this morning and found that the original New York Times article about school library funding posted yesterday was repeated in her digest message multiple times because most people who responded to the original post included that original message in their reply.

So this is a reminder: If you are replying to a prior CCBC-Net post, please DELETE the prior post from your response. If you are commenting on a specific part of that post it's fine to quote those lines, but including the entire post makes the digest format in particular almost impossible for users to get through, especially if, as yesterday, there are multiple responses to a long post.

We have avoided setting CCBC-Net to automatically exclude the entire prior post because we want to enable you to easily quote from relevant in front of each line of text from the prior message. That is one option we can consider, however, as is limiting the number of prior post lines allowable to a set number.

We know it's easy to forget to delete the prior message, especially when you are feeling passionate about whatever you've just read! So anything you can think of to remind yourself to do so will be appreciated--especially by digest subscribers.

Thanks.

Now back to the Printz, Morris and YALSA Excellence in Nonfiction Awards!
