As Ginny points out in talking about Betsy's book, one of the most excitin g aspects of the recent crop of non-fiction is how personal and fresh it is. Betsy, Philip, Tanya all did original interviews with participants in the events they described. Each author clearly had a passion not only to tell a story well, but to reveal injustice, and the struggle to put thing s right. In a time when -- as we have learned -- some libraries think a da tabase can do the work of a book, these books show what only a committed author can offer: do the hard work to check facts and get a story right, while speaking in a powerful, personal, voice.
