I agree! I would also like to add that the Brilliance Audio audiobook versi on of CLAUDETTE COLVIN; TWICE TOWARD JUSTICE is also very well done and I r ecommend it highly. It's unabridged and beautifully narrated by Channie Wai ts. She captures the "young" voice of Claudette, as well as the exposition and even the meaty sidebars-- quite an achievement. I was completely engros sed-- and that doesn't always happen with audio adaptations of nonfiction. Listen to an audio sample here:

What I particularly love about Claudette's story is how young she was when she took action and she took it on her own. What a wonderfuly empowering message for young peple that they can be agents of change. The fact that Claudette's case was not championed by the movement largely because of her youth is also a compelling message to young readers about how society, then and now, values young people.

I really liked Claudette Colvin (the book and the person), I love to see well-written original research for KIDS! It was so exciting to read about how Phillip Hoose tracked Claudette down, and very thrilling to read about a part of the bus boycott I had missed, even though I studied it in college. I think it is also really good to have a book that addresses class as well as race. And for kids to see that there are unsung stories, and that there was some tension within the movement--it wasn't all lovey-dovey and inclusive all the time, and STILL it was powerful and amazing.

Another note: My 11-year-old sucked it down. She couldn't put it down!
