Hello everyone, and please excuse cross-posting.
The Aurealis Awards are Australia's awards for fantasy, science fiction and horror. The awards were presented in Brisbane, Australia last night.
Best Young Adult Novel: Scott Westerfeld, *Leviathan Book One*, Penguin Best Children's Novel: Gabrielle Wang, *A Ghost in My Suitcase*, Penguin Best Children's Short Fiction/Illustrated/Picture Book: Pamela Freeman, *Victor's Challenge*, illustrated by Kim Gamble, Walker Books Best Illustrated Book/Graphic Novel: Nathan Jurevicius, *Scarygirl*, Allen & Unwin Best Young Adult Short Story: Cat Sparks, ‘Seventeen’, *Masques*
I'm particularly thrilled for Pamela Freemand and Kim Gamble. Not only are they both close friends, but I was one of Pamela's first readers on *Victor 's Challenge*, so have a particular interest i its success!
And some of you may be wondering about Scott Westerfeld's eligibility. Scot t has permanent residency in Australia, as he's married to Australian Justine Larbalestier, and they spend half the year here (the good half ;-) ) Scott was tweeting everyone's frocks from the awards last night: it was a veritable Golden Globes red carpet affair!

The shortlist appears to have disappeared from the Aurealis website, but it's here:

Some great books there. Apart from Cassandra Golds' *The Museum of Mary Child*, I am not sure which are published in the US. I would draw your attention to Kate Constable's *Cicada Summer*, which was my favourite Australian children's novel from last year (apart from *Victor*, which I don't count because I read it yonks ago!)
