We held our mock Coretta Scott King Awards discussion this afternoon at the Central Rappahannock Regional Library with the following results:
Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award
Winner: My People by Langston Hughes; photographs by Charles R. Smith Jr. Honor Books: The Negro Speaks of Rivers by Langston Hughes; illus. by E.B. Lewis
Testing the Ice by Sharon Robinson; illustrated by Kadir Nelson
Coretta Scott King Author Award
Winner: tied between Peace, Locomotion by Jacqueline Woodson and The Rock and the River by Kekla Magoon Honor Book: Flygirl by Sherri L. Smith
Additional titles discussed for the illustrator award were Bad News for Outlaws by Vaunda Micheaux Nelson and Change has Come illustrated by Kadir Nelson
Additional titles discussed for the author award were Amiri and Odette by Walter Dean Myers and Mare's War by Tanita S. Davis
