Hello! Just wanted to pass along the results of our Darien Library "Newber y Visionaries" Mock Awards. A committee of kids, ages 9 to 12, voted last week.
They read: - All the Broken Pieces by Ann Burg - Anything But Typical by Nora Raleigh Baskin - The Brooklyn Nine by Alan Gratz - Chasing Lincoln's Killer by James Swanson - The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate by Jacqueline Kelly - The Girl Who Threw Butterflies by Mick Cochrane - Love, Aubrey by Suzanne LaFleur - The Magician's Elephant by Kate DiCamillo - The Mostly True Adventures of Homer P. Figg by Rodman Philbrick - Neil Armstrong is My Uncle and Other Lies Muscle Man McGinty Told Me by Nan Marino - Slob by Ellen Porter - When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead - Where the Mountain Meet the Moon by Grace Lin - The Year the Swallows Came Early by Kathryn Fitzmaurice
And the winner was......(drum roll, please)....... SLOB! They also picked two honor books, Anything But Typical and Chasing Lincoln's Killer.
There's a super cute picture of our "Visionaries" here:

15 4th-8th grade members of the Northport-East Northport Public Library Newbery club met last week for their 5th annual Mock Election. It took 1 1/2 hours of discussion and three ballots to decide between those two titles-they eventually succeeded in choosing When You Reach me as the winner and gave Where the Mountain Meets the Moon. The Magician's Eleph ant by Kate DiCamillo was also given an honor.
