It is thrilling to read reviews that pin down just what it means to succeed with a picture book. And I scurry off to try, try again to make something that meets those high standards.

Janet, what a wonderful lead-in to an article by Rick Roche (Rick, did I hear about your blog thru the ccbc-net list?). Back in 2007 I came upon his blog and wrote about it to the CCF website. There are links in the article to both Rick's excellent write-up, "So You Want to Be a Reviewer?" as well as ALA's booklet on "The Elements for Basic Reviews: A Guide for Writers and Readers of Reviews of Works in All Mediums and Genres."

As an author I read reviews and articles such as Rick's so that in my writing I too can meet those high standards. As a book reviewer for CCF I try to write the reviews in a manner that also will meet the standards Rick, the ALA, and others have set before us.
