Hello,
Effie Lee received the Reading the World Award at our USF conference. Thi s year№s conference March 6,7, 2010 will definitely do a memorial in her honor. She has been our figurehead and shining beacon since the inception of this conference, which began as a student sponsored project in 1997.

The ALSC board has passed a resolution honoring her: I've attached the document. If I understand correctly, they were going to have the ALA exec utive board consider it as well.

dear henrietta and all: i am so sad and always angry....she was indeed a pioneer and one of our early supporters when we began to publish...zeely first in 1967..... she was a strong woman who would recognize no ceilings...glass or otherwise.... and she had that regal quality: cool and thoughtful and organized with a world view for african americans...and for all humane humans....
