Kathy's post suggests an interesting option -- what if the journals create d an echo blog where a reviewer who had more to say about a book than s/he could fit was allowed to discuss it in more detail. Within the journal, of course, the review is edited -- it the voice not only of the reviewer but of the magazine which has to sign off on it. So that would have to be worked out. But it would be great to the Reviewers Cut -- the way you can get the Director's Cut of a movie -- and also then a reviewer might explore areas s/he had to skim in the rush for deadline and space.
