A quick note as I fly through some e-mail tonight. For all the years I've been involved with children's lit, I've placed a strong emphasis on diversity/multicultural... (whatever the word is I'm supposed to use now??)... and introduced small presses. During my college teaching years, I worked with Kane-Miller, Oyate, Arte Publico, and Lee & Low. And more recently, Tulika out of India.

My commente here -- when I have tried to get these books seen and reviewed (and hopefully purchased) by public libraries or public schools, I'm always thwarted by the comment "We are severely restricted by what the State tells us we can do." I'm always so saddened that I've discovered these grand resources, presses, and books .... but can't seem to spread the word. What have been the experiences of otherrs here?
