I very much enjoyed David Small’s “Stitches,” but I was really surprised to see it nominated as a book for young people. While it’s in no way “inappropriate,” I don’t think it has a lot of generalized teen appeal. I wonder how much of the decision to nominate at a teen title was due to a stereotype that teens are the only ones reading graphic works?
