Queer Kids

That's a terrible story, about that boy who was killed so brutally. And it's very, very true that "queer" is still used as a smear--just as "gay" and "lesbian" are, along with "faggot" and "dyke," etc. Since I don't know the context in which the word came up in the discussion, I'm not sur e which way it was being used--but it does remain true that it is also use d legitimately --just as gay and lesbian are.
"Queer"--used legitimately--often just means "member of a sexual minority" necessary gay or lesbian or transgender--or sometimes a combination. Today's queer kids have put together a lot of clever terms with which to describe themselves.
But I have a feeling that this discussion is way beyond the scope of CCBC, and I've probably continued it too long as it is!
