i so hate this news with full passion: effie lee was an early friend of us both...and vocal supporter of virginia's work... she was a powerhouse...a force for inclusion and the highest excellence... she was a true daughter of dubois and took her responsibilities most seri ously....

let those of you who are young ...especially beginning and moving forward: study effie lee and augusta baker and satia and henrietta...and dozens of o ther strong and smart and hard-working women...of every hue...

they help to raise us all....arnold
