I wholeheartedly agree with Nancy Silverrod about "The Book Thief." I LOVE that book. Very powerful. I was extremely surprised to see that book categorized as a YA novel. Another example of a crossover book is "A Northern Light" by Jennifer Donnelly. My daughter also read it when she was 14 and found it as much of a page-turner as her mom. On another note, there's Jody Picoult's "Nineteen Minutes," which is classified as adult fiction, yet I know that some high school teachers are using this book in their classes because of the powerful messages it relays.
There's also the interesting case of "Three Cups of Tea." I was surprised to find out that a YA version is now available. My son is reading that now for school. I haven't had the opportunity to read the YA version but plan to do so soon. I'm very curious to see what the differences are, if any, between the adult version and YA version.
