Eden Ross Lipson recognized at the Eric Carle Museum Saturday, October 3, 2009
?The silent cat ? unexpected, impossible to anticipate, not necessarily easy to spot, delightful to find ? is a character who is not mentioned in the text of a picture book, but appears on the page, and, to the sharp eye of a young reader, becomes part, often an important part, of the story.? ERL
Before her death in May, Eden was working with Lauren Wohl on an exhibit called ?The Silent Cat.? Eden?s selection of books featuring this enigmatic creature will be on display at the Eric Carle Museum. In addition, a day honoring her work and the publication of her book, Applesauce Season, illustrated by Mordicai Gerstein will take place on Saturday, October 3, 2009.
2:00 ? 3:00 p.m. Panel Discussion about Eden?s contributions to the world of Children?s books. Leonard Marcus will moderate. 3:00 ? 3:30 p.m. Book Signing: Mordicai Gerstein will sign copies of Applesauce Season by Eden Ross Lipson, Roaring Brook Press, August 2009 3:00 ? 4:00 p.m. Museum Tour 4:00 ? 5:00 p.m. Wine & Cheese reception
A bus will be available for those attending from the New York metropolitan area. The cost for the trip will be $60. This includes round-trip bus fare, a box lunch, museum admission, and a wine & cheese reception. The bus will depart from NYC [midtown location to be announced] at 9:00 a.m. and arrive at the Museum by 12:30 p.m. A box lunch will be served in the Caf?. The bus will leave for the return trip at 5:00 p.m. and arrive midtown by 8:30 p.m. Register early to ensure seating.
