Tale of Despereaux.... is a book that I felt worked well as a movie. The folktale quality of the story helped, and the spirit of the book was certainly preserved. I wondered if it would be frightening to young children, but it wasn't for my grandchildren, ages 6, 4 and 3. They squealed at times but always with shivery delight.
