Thank you to everyone who participated in the July discussion of Perry Nodelman?s new book, /The Hidden Adult/. Special thanks to Perry, whose thorough and thoughtful posts helped make this a memorable and compelling CCBC-Net discussion.
It?s time to begin our August discussion on the topic of books and movies. Has everyone seen /Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince/ by now? Did it satisfy those who loved the book, or leave you wanting something more, or something different? Has the /Twilight/ glow faded, or is it still burning strong? Are you eagerly awaiting the film version of /Where the Wild Things Are/, or dreading its release?
When it comes to Harry Potter movies, I?ve worked hard to set aside my book expectations and take the movies for what they are ? inevitably shortened and altered versions of a well-loved story. Still, I admit that I missed the battle with the Death Eaters after Dumbledore?s death, but I loved the emphasis on a cast of characters that have come to feel like family. Ginny is taller than Harry! Ron finally gets to shine on the Quidditch pitch! Luna wears her lion hat with pride! How do you feel about books that have recently appeared on the big screen?
