I just received this from a friend in Australia, and thought it weirdly appropriate for this discussion:


Tomorrow is the 570th anniversary of the introduction of the ban on kissing in England, 16th July 1439. This was an emergency measure imposed to try and stop the spread of the bubonic plague or "black death".

In commemoration of this historic anniversary, I propose we place a worldwide ban on kissing tomorrow, effective for the rest of this year, to try and stop the spread of swine flu. It may also have the added benefit of stopping the population explosion for a while.
