PLEASE: Before all my blood is sucked from my jugular veins, be it known I
am quite the advocate of YA literature. My comments were not addressed to YA literature; they were addressed to one genre...vampires...and mainly the the TWILIGHT series.
To those who wrote me personally and on this litserv be it known I have been an advocate of YA literature for eons. I was a great supporter of NCTE's ALAN when it was formed back in l973, and I am a lifetime member of this group.
I know and have known great YA writers...Lloyd Alexander, Virginia Hamilton, Avi, Appelt, on and on. And yes, I have read what has been termed 'the Octavian Nothing duet' as well as works by Gary Paulson, Eve Bunting, et. al.
I have also read and loved works by Andersen and Anderson -- both Hans Christian and Laurie Halse.
I have also read works by Meyer and Myers -- both Stephanie and Walter Dean, though I prefer the brilliance to Myers over Meyer!
I have also read works by Woolf and Wolff - both Virginia and Virginia Euwer.
I have also read works by Hughes - both Langston and Ted.
In no way am I saying YA literature is unimportant. It is of UTMMOST importance Again I was merely commenting on a pop- culture saga series.
Forgive me. My blood runs thin.
