She's been mentioned, but I have to second Grandma Dowdel as my all-time favorite, so much so that I re-read A Year Down Yonder and A Long Way From to Chicago?at least once a year...and am thrilled that Grandma is coming back to us this September in? A Season of Gifts. I am always amazed...

So far most of the characters mentioned have been children or adolescents.? Thought I'd mention some of my favorite grown-up supporting characters:

Severus Snape from Harry Potter series for his good/evil ambivalence The troubled and suffering Dustfinger from Inkheart Mrs. Who, Mrs. Which, and Mrs. What from A Wrinkle in Time for their odd wisdom Granny Weatherwax from the Tiffany Aching books by Terry Pratchett, a curmudgeonly witch so powerful and so respected she almost never has to use magic (also if Tiffany herself hasn't been mentioned yet, consider it done)

And a few anthropomorphized animals I don't think?have been mentioned: Desperaux from the Tale of Desperaux Badger from Wind in the Willows Iorick from Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy
