I just finished reading Jennifer L. Holm's "Penny From Heaven" today on my lunch break. What great characters! I loved Penny's extended family & thought several of the characters were very well done, including Pop-Pop, the belching grandpa, Nonny, the strong matriarch of her Italian-American family, and Uncle Dominic , who has never been "quite right" since losing a sibling. I found the author's notes fascinating, especially since the story/characters were based on people in her own family. I'm always envious of such rich family stories, and find myself wishing I had made more of an effort to learn some of my own family's stories before my grandparents were gone.
