I'm coming late to the party, here--but what a great party it is!! I love Ant from Gennifer Choldenko's NOTES FROM A LIAR AND HER DOG. I will join those who admire Harriet and Ol' Golly from Louise Fitzhugh's HARRIET THE SPY. And Jo from LITTLE WOMEN, of course. I had quite a crush on the eponymous JOHNNY TREMAIN. (Though I was equally attracted to Rab in the same book--and felt guilty about it.) And, yes, Holden Caufield! (I hope J.D . Salinger wins his lawsuit against the writer who wants to produce a sequel--travesty!!) As a teenager, I was taken with Yossarian from CATCH-22. Still am.

I'll stop there, having just skimmed the surface.
