I don't remember exactly when I was introduced to Stuart Little, but it must have been when a teacher read the book to my class in elementary school. I have been enchanted by Stuart ever since. What a dapper, resilient, resourceful little gentlemouse he is. I learned so many words from E. B White's beautiful writing (remember Stuart's little pillow: For You I Pine, For You I Balsam; and sarsaparilla - how exotic!). I bought the book as soon as I could, and still have that copy with my old bookplate in it. It's one of the most treasured books in my library.

I have met Stuart Littles in my life, most recently, a landscaper who planted some beautiful gardens for me. He too is a smallish, dapper and well put together gentleman who loves the spoken word and writes poetry. I am almost as enamoured of him as I am, still, of Stuart.
