Do you think there is something about the name April?
As someone pointed out, April Pulley Sayre writes nonfiction picture books about nature.
And I'm April Henry, and my second YA, Torched, is about a 16 yo girl who goes undercover with a group similiar to Earth Liberation Front. Only they are called Mother Earth Defenders, and the group members are MEDics rather than Elves.
Another recent YA book about the environment is fellow Portlander Blake Nelson's Destroy All Cars.
