[CCBC-Net] folktales

I apologize as one of the guilty ones for taking the discussion a bit off-track. But I think our dialogue reflects the passion of the topic. I do suggest that a future topic could be Native American Literature or the Telling and Retelling of Multicultural Stories and Legends.

I also want to mention that as I enjoyed the listing of memorable picture books, I was struck by the paucity of nonfiction titles. I think this is an accurate reflection that nonfiction books in general have not received the same "attention" or acclaim. Certainly contemporary nonfiction picture books, especially biographies, are now receiving awards for the amazing weaving together of narration, information, poetry and images. It is interesting that perhaps the stories they present are not as memorable. I don't know.

This coming week I will be moderator for a discussion about writing nonfiction at the Through the Tollbooth blogsite. Please join me if interested. nancy bo flood

> In the meantime, thanks to all of you who contributed to the discussion of picture books. We're about to switch gears for the second two weeks of May but if you have any last-minute comments about tried and true picture books, please feel free to make them over this weekend.
