[CCBC-Net] Favorite picture book makers

What about Carole Boston Weatherford for her books Becoming Billie Holiday, Moses, Dear Mr. Rosenwald, Jazz Baby, Freedom on the menu, and a few dozen others? But Kevin Henkes and his little mice such as Lilly and Chester are still at the top of my list for favorites, besides the duo Janet Stevens and Susan Stevens Crummel have some of the funniest books around.

At the moment that we persuade a child, any child, to cross that threshold, that magic threshold into a library, we change their lives forever, for the better. ~~Barack Obama

You see, I don't believe libraries should be drab places where people sit in silence, and that's been the main reason for our policy of employing wild animals as librarians. ~~Monty Python

I wish to voice my favorites from a group of book makers who have received less attention:

Shonto Begay and Louise Erdrich were mentioned. I add to the list of Native American authors and artists: Tim Tingle, (Crossing Bok Chitto); Bahe Whitethorne, Sr.,Sunpainters, Father's Boots); Michael Lacapa (The Flute Player, The Magic Hummingbird); Joseph Bruchac ( The Bright Path, Jim Thorpe, A Boy Called Slow, and The Navajo Long Walk illustrated by Shonto Begay). > I vote for Bill Peet (CHESTER THE WORLDLY PIG, BUFORD THE LITTLE BIGHORN,
> HUBERT'S HAIR-RAISING ADVENTURE, RANDY'S DANDY LIONS, and many more). Not
> for the littlest children, but my kids and I loved them for the wit,
> surprising plot twists, funny and expressive illustrations, and much more.
