It's time to start out discussion for the first part of May: Tried and True Picture Book Authors.
*
*It's wonderful to discover new picture books and new picture book creators, but having an arsenal of tried and true, go-to books and authors/illustrators can be essential for librarians, teachers and others who share books with young children. Five years ago, we developed a CCBC presentation for early childhood teachers and care providers called "Ten Picture Book Authors Every Child Care Provider Should Know." (You can see the list we created and a sampling of books at http://www.education.wisc.edu/ccbc/books/detailListBooks.asp?idBookLists=174). But we know this list barely begins to plumb the depths of wonderful talent. So whose picture books do you turn to over and over again when you share books with children, or when you suggest books for young readers and listeners to look at on their own or with other adults in their lives.
