Hi,

I may be a little of topic here, and I apologize, but it is related to the topic of picture books....

I work part-time at the children's reference desk of a public library. When I was working the other day, a mother asked for suggestions of picture books appropriate for her 14 month old daughter that feature African American characters (as the woman and her daughter were African American). I (with the help of my coworker) came up with Rachel Isadora and Spike Lee (I'm not typically a fan of celebrity picture book authors, but in this case it fit). Any other suggestions?

Oh, and btw, my favorite picture book authors are Jan Brett, Eve Bunting, Eric Carle, Doreen Cronin, Tomie DePaola, Lois Ehlert, Ed Emberley, Denise Fleming, Saxton Freymann, Kevin Henkes, Ezra Jack Keats, Jarrett Krosocza, Bill Martin Jr, Mercer Mayer, Jon Muth, Peggy Rathmann, Dr. Seuss, David Shannon, Rosemary Wells, Mo Willems, Douglas Wood, and Jacqueline Woodson
