I experienced a moment of great joy when "Wolfsnail" was announced as an Geisel honor book. I have been a big fan of this slow-paced hunter since I came across it last summer. The design layout is simple yet fresh--clear photos and basic sentences tell a backyard nature story. A backyard nature story about a cannibalistic snail! Who knew?! This story oozes with real-life gross-out qualities. No longer will you look at an unassuming snail without remembering the wolfsnail's tooth-lined tongue and how it is used. I know plenty of beginning readers who will devour this book
