I love the Batchelder Award for helping me find those titles. If there is a way for ALSC to encourage publishers to promote new titles that fit the description, I would consider purchasing them. In our shrunken world I think it is crucial for our children to read books from other countries -- new ideas, new vocabulary, new authors, new characters! We have had several examples in the past -- Corneilia Funk is one of my favorite authors now!
Is there a way to get Publisher's Weekly to offer a list of possible titles on their electronic newsletter a couple times a year? This might be a way for some of us to know what's new and available. I certainly consider other new titles I read about there -- and then hunt for reviews or seek them out in bookstores, etc. to consider for purchase.
Who's going to write School Library Journal with an article on this topic? That could certainly be a yearly feature offerring suggestions! I haven't read enough to do it but I'll bet someone out there has. Teacher-Librarian would probably be interested in that type of article too! Here's a chance for someone to be published! Of course the award committee cannot do this -- but someone can! Maybe you?
