[CCBC-Net] Precursor to the Graveyard Book? Re: 2009 Newbery Award

I too loved the Graveyard book. We read it aloud at home. When we got about 3/4 through, I stayed up late with a flashlight and finished it on my own.

In preparation for this year's Reading the World conference, I'm reading Whispers in the Graveyard by Theresa Breslin, which won the Carnegie medal in England in 1994. It is a very different story, except that it centers on a boy who found a sanctuary for himself in a graveyard. However, in this story the evil emanates within the graveyard. I wonder if this book will have a resurgence in Gaiman's book's wake (nautical wake not funereal wake).
"Whispers" may have its own "resurrection" thanks to Neil Gaiman. It's a compelling, cinematic drama, but lacks the humor and warmth of "The Graveyard Book."
