And that you can lose everything, home and country, and have nothing except words, written or as a map, and they can give you wings. I also appreciated how the father brought home a map instead of food, much to the chagrin of the mother. I, too, loved "How I Learned Geography" and the other Caldecott books, especially "River of Words." My favorite Caldecott year ever.
