I saw one of the paintings for We Are the Ship at the Society of Illustrators show. It was amazing. Almost all illustrators paint small enough to fit the work on a drum scanner but the paintings for this book are huge. It would be really cool if Nelson had a show displaying all the art for the book. I know I'd love to see that. If I were to judge this book solely on the art I"d say it definitely deserves the gold Caldecott hands down. I don't know about the criteria though. I've looked through the book and there's a lot of text to get through so as much as I have tried to read it I haven't been able to as of yet. I gave it 4 shots so far (I'm a little A.D.D).

I suppose this is another debate but I'd love to know what people think of the Sibert and its criteria. Do kids matter in this decision at all? If I can't get through the text then how is a little kid? I shouldn't be so harsh because as I've said, I haven't read the book yet.

The art is amazing non the less!
