I also lurk on this list but I truly loved "Twenty Heartbeats" and thought it met the Caldecott criteria. I bought it for my grandson who adores horses- both for story and illustration. I also wondered what others thought of Ed Young's Wabi Sabi? The illustrations are magnificent. Does it meet other Caldecott criteria, I wonder? I was disappointed in Shulevitch's book and I did not find A Couple of Boys have the Best Week Ever appealing but I need to go back and look at it more objectively. I generally lurk on this list but had to tell you...you are not alone,
Wendy. I *adored* Twenty Heartbeats and told anyone I could that it should
win/should have won the Caldecott. It met all the criteria in spades! The art work
medium became part of the story and the story was enhanced by the artwork. It
was an outstanding page-turner and, in my opinion, should have won.
