Sylvia, I'm so glad you pointed out on January 28th that four books of poetry were honored this year by the 2009 Coretta Scott King Awards Committee.
Make that five!
The CSK John Steptoe / New Talent award winner for artwork is Shada Strickland for her wonderful work in the book **/Bird /published by Lee
& Low Books. It's important to remember that a series of absolutely splendid poems written by Zetta Elliott forms the narrative text in
/Bird/. This amazing book is also cited in the 2009 ALSC Notable Children's Books list.
