My favorite poetry book of 2008 was "Traces," written by Paula Fox and illustrated by Karla Kuskin. What a special, quiet treat this book is! I bought it mainly for myself, but my 7 year-old loves it, too, and often asks me to read it to her, saying that the poems make her "think and feel." As Becca Zerkin said in her NY Times review,
?Traces? is a kind of poem about the clues left behind by a world in motion." Not everyone's cup of tea, but an incredibly satisfying one for children and adults who enjoy contemplative reading.
