[CCBC-Net] Favorite Books of 2008

So true about Knucklehead, very humorous book.

Monkey and Me is a top favorite among the children services staff here for story time.

I thought of one more picture that I adored, not sure it's been mentioned--it's called One by Kathryn Otoshi, a deceptively simple counting/color book about a complex topic--handling bullies and being part of a team. It would make a good read aloud for both preschoolers and school-aged kids. Can be enjoyed on several levels.

Here are some favorites of mine: Picture books: Monkey and Me, by Emily Gravett - very cleverly constructed, and a terrific read aloud to boot. Tupelo Rides the Rails, by Melissa Sweet - I love the unlikely, beautiful synthesis of astronomy and homeless dogs. Garmann's Summer, by Stian Hole - wow.

Novels: My One Hundred Adventures, by Polly Horvath - airy and bleak and spinning, and captivating, too. Suite Scarlett, by Maureen Johnson - substantially funny, and really rewarding.

Non-Fiction: Wild Tracks!: A Guide to Nature's Footprints, by Jim Arnosky - just a really nice package whose elements all work well together. Knucklehead: Tall Tales and Almost True Stories of Growing up Scieszka, by Jon Scieszka - at last, the perfect book for the autobiography book report.
