Hello, I apologize for posting an announcement mid-month and off schedule. The following Chicago-area events related to Peter Sis are quite exciting and I hope that some on this list might be able to participate. An outline of the events is presented first, followed by more detailed information.

The weekend of December 12-14, The Center for Teaching through Children's Books is co-sponsoring three separate events featuring award-winning author, Peter S?s.

The Consulate General of the Czech Republic The Consulate General of Mexico Center for Teaching through Children's Books at National-Louis University in co-operation with Jos? Clemente Orozco Community Academy and Facets Cin?math?que present Artist in Residence Peter Sis MacArthur Fellow 2003 and his book Madlenka offered as a gift to the children of Chicago Public Schools on Friday, December 12, 2008, 9:30 a.m. at Jos? The Communist Czechoslovakia of Mr. S?s's youth was a place where creativity could be discouraged but not easily killed. Graphic art, journal entries, and personal photographs illustrate the harsh realities of a closed society and the inevitable longing for freedom. College students (undergrad and grad), teachers, librarians, and young adults interested in art, politics, and Eastern European history are welcome. (Not suitable for children under 12). CPDU's will be available.

Author Study 1- 2pm
Join NLU faculty as we model an author study of Peter S?s and discuss common themes in his work. CPDU's will be available.

Facets Multi-Media Presents Peter S?s - Sunday December 14 Special screenings of three animated films by this MacArthur Fellowship recipient author, children's book writer, illustrator, artist, and filmmaker. Films to be shown: THE HEADS, PLAYERS, and WE ALL HAVE TALES: RUMPELSTILTSKIN. A discussion with S?s will be moderated by Chicago author Chase Levey Collins. Copies of the award-winning children's book, THE WALL, will be available for signing. Facets Multi-Media 1517 W. Fullerton, Chicago Admission is $9 for adults (FREE for Facets Patron Circle Members) and $5 for children (FREE for Facets STAR Members).
