Mary Ann Rodman's latest middle grade novel, JIMMY'S STARS is a gem. Set in WWII Pittsburgh, it tells the tragi-comic story of Ellie and her soldier-brother, Jimmy. Though it's full of wonderful period details, the subject couldn't be more current -- and the writing is exquisite.
Just read this first paragraph: "The two people Ellie McKelvey hated most were Adolf Hitler and Victoria Gandeck. Hiter lived in Germany, but Victoria was just across the alley. And right now, Ellie hated Victoria more."
